Sean Paul Henriques (born January 8, 1973) is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist. He is professionally known only by his first names, Sean Paul.

Sean Paul was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and spent his early years "comfortably" (according to his VH1 biography[1]) in Upper Saint Andrew Parish, a few miles north of his birthplace. His parents were both talented athletes, and his mother Frances, is a well-known painter.[2] His father Garth is Portuguese and his mother is of Afro-Caribbean and Chinese descent, although both were born in Jamaica.[3]

In line with his Sephardic heritage, he was a pupil at the island's Hillel Academy, a non-religious school funded by the local Jewish community.[citation needed] He claims to be a direct descendant of Solomon through his father.[4]

Many members of Sean Paul's family are swimmers.[5] His grandfather was on the first Jamaican men's national water polo team.[6] His father also played water polo for the team in the 1960s, and competed in long-distance swimming, while Sean Paul's mother was a backstroke swimmer.[7] Sean Paul played for the national water polo team from the age of thirteen to twenty-one.[8] However, he gave up the sport in order to launch his musical career.

Kosheen is a UK trip hop, drum and bass and rock musical group based in Bristol. The trio consists of producers Markee Substance (b. Mark Morrison 1974, Glasgow) and Darren Decoder (b. Darren Beale 1974, Bristol), with singer Sian Evans. Their first album, Resist (released in September 2001 and reaching number 8 in the UK album chart) spawned the singles "(Slip and Slide) Suicide", "Hide U", "Catch", "Hungry" and "Harder". Their second album, Kokopelli (released in August 2003 and named for a mythical Native American spirit) focused less on drum-and-bass beats and more on guitar riffs and darker-toned lyrics. It outperformed its predecessor in the UK album chart by reaching number 7, but did not sell as well as its predecessor.

Their third album, Damage, was due to be released in 2006, however this has now been pushed back to early 2007.[1]. Preview tracks from the forthcoming album are available from the official website.

Their first album, "Resist", was heavily promoted in the 2002 edition of the Nokia Game. A short loop of "Harder" could be heard from all parts of game's virtual world.

The name of the band is a combination of the Japanese words for "old" (古, romanized transliteration ko) and "new" (新, shin).

After the release of their 2007 album, 'Damage', Kosheen are embarking on a UK tour with dates in the spring throughout the UK.
