the beginning ...

remixes.net was launched in January 2000. The site was pretty modest back then and still is to this day although the number of remixes have increased substantially. For most of that first year the site consisted of just four pages; the homepage, the mix of the week, the feedback page and the information page.

In December of that year someone finally got wise and decided to start archiving the previous "mix of the week" rather than deleting it. Prior to this eureka moment, when the new mix went up the old mix was completely removed from the server. That's why the 2000 archives are so sparse even though the site was active for the entire year.

the mixes ...

Most of the mixes here are not available commercially. Altough there are a few exceptions including some older out-of-print 12-inches. By far most of the mixes are from various professional remix services:

• DMC
• Hot Tracks
• Mastermix
• Select Mix
• Ultimix

In addition to the remix service mixes there are also quite a few bootleg mixes on the site done by some very talented amateurs. Some of these amateurs have gone on to produce tracks for the professional remix services. Which brings me to...

I'd like to list all of the DJs here but after so many years the list would be quite large. Consider this a blanket thanks to all of the DJs featured on the site. Without your work this site wouldn't exist. So fire up your RealPlayer and check out the archives.
